There's not an ounce of cream in this thick smoothie, and you can actually make it with water as opposed to coconut or other non-dairy milk. What gives it the creamy texture? Cashews and avocado.
It's a particularly kid-friendly treat, though, as you honestly can't really taste either. The flavor that dominates is the berry, and it can be made with whatever frozen berries are your favorite. I tend to go with strawberries, but have made it with equally tasty results with both raspberries and blueberries.
I do think the red/pink berries yield a prettier hue though, and certainly one more thematic for Valentine's!
Paleo Valentine's Berry & "Cream" Smoothie
1 cup frozen berries (unthawed)
1 tbs. raw cashews
1 medium ripe avocado (peeled, cored and diced)
1 cup non-dairy unsweetened milk or water
1 tbs. raw honey or maple syrup
1 tbs. ground flax, chia or hemp hearts
Combine all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth.
