Paleo Pear & Spinach Smoothie

My kids' favorite smoothie this time of year is super simple: either a frozen pear or banana (they each have a personal preference) mixed with unsweetened almond milk, cinnamon and ground flax. The banana smoothie in particular has an amazing creamy texture and natural sweetness.

Since their choices aren't exactly recipes per se, though, I'm just including my formula and sharing a quick pic of the tasty concoctions.

I like my smoothies a bit less sweet and with a little green, so this morning while making theirs I came up with my own. I added ginger, lemon and spinach and it was delicious! I opted for pear but will have to try this with banana too. One way to ensure the pear smoothie will be a bit thicker is to use pear that you've first chopped and frozen.

You could add a little raw honey, maple syrup or stevia drops for sweetness. I went with a small pitted date (a great option, just be sure you have a high-speed blender that can truly puree the date smoothly).

Paleo Pear & Spinach Smoothie

large handful baby spinach
one small pear, frozen (cored & diced)
1 tbs. lemon juice
1 tbs. ground flaxseed
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 cup water
natural sweetener, to taste (optional)

Combine all ingredients in a high-speed blender and process until smooth. Top with a little extra cinnamon if desired.
