Grain-Free Flax Pizza Crust

If there's one thing everyone in my household adores, it's pizza. Through the years, both paleo and not, I have made countless varieties of homemade dough. Even though we're already in love with a couple of recipes, I can't fight the urge to try them when I stumble upon new twists and techniques.

Tonight's pizza crust comes from I Breathe, I'm Hungry. Mellissa uses ground flax and hemp seed, neither of which I've included in a crust before. I felt like it was worth it to give it a whir!

I really liked this one, though it's definitely didn't crisp up too much. I liked the seedy texture and thought it was a fun alternative to traditional dough. I don't know that it would suit all toppings, but I definitely think it would be worth making again.

The caveman, however, didn't like it at all. Granted, he polished off 3 slices regardless, but he pretty much made it clear between every bite that it wasn't his favorite.

I still wanted to share this one because it's quite unique, easy to make and has a really nice flavor. I'd love to hear your feedback if you try it out!

Grain-Free Flax Pizza Crust
adapted from I Breathe, I'm Hungry

1/2 cup ground flax
1/4 cup coconut flour
1/4 cup hemp seeds
1/2 cup parmesan cheese
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. oregano
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
2 eggs

Preheat oven to 350. Combine all of the dry ingredients and mix well.  Add the 2 eggs and stir until a dough forms.  Press or roll into a 10″ circle on a parchment lined cookie sheet.

Bake at 350 for 12 minutes.  Remove from the oven and add your desired toppings.  Return to the oven for another 18-20 minutes until the cheese is melted and the crust is golden brown.

  1. If I don't have hemp seeds, what could I substitute?

    1. Hi Sarah, you could maybe try almond meal or flour in lieu of the hemp... haven't tried it myself, but the ratio would probably work with the coconut flour and flax.
