Paleo Tropical Green Smoothie

I asked on Facebook how paleo eaters feel about smoothies, as I know some try to avoid liquid meals (and many smoothies are loaded with sugar and fruit).

I personally like to have a green smoothie every morning. It keeps me full until lunch, and is the perfect meal that I can easily digest on the days I don't get to work out until after my kids head to school.

None of my smoothies contain a ton of fruit. While today's tropical drink contains frozen banana, most of my favorites are banana-free. Avocado is a great alternative to add a creamy, thick texture.

I made this one with a mixture of coconut water and coconut milk, but you could use all of either one. I also like to include hemp hearts in my smoothies, but ground flax is a great alternative too.

Paleo Tropical Green Smoothie

1 cup diced mango
1/2 frozen banana, cut into chunks
1 large handful baby spinach or kale (stems removed)
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 tbs. ground flaxseed or hulled hemp hearts
1 1/2-2 cups non-dairy milk, coconut water or combination (depending on how thick you like your smoothies)
natural sweetener, to taste (I used a couple drops of liquid stevia… honey would work well too)

Combine all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth.
