Paleo Chili-Rubbed Steak


I adapted this recipe from Food Network's Ellie Krieger; the kids had requested tacos and I wanted to use steak as the protein. While they ate theirs in sprouted corn tortillas, the caveman and I enjoyed our tacos in romaine lettuce leaves.

The meat has just the right amount of heat without being too spicy. While Ellie paired it with a cucumber and avocado salsa, I simply laid out all the fixings for everyone to dress theirs as they wished. A generous squirt of lime juice and a little coarse sea salt were definitely perfect to finish things off though!

Paleo Chili-Rubbed Steak

1 tbs. chili powder
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
pinch of cayenne pepper
1 lb. sirloin steaks, cut 1-inch thick
optional toppings: minced cilantro, lime wedges, diced mango, avocado, tomato, sliced jalapeƱo & coarse sea salt
romaine lettuce leaves, for serving

In a small bowl mix chili powder, garlic, cinnamon, salt & pepper. Rub mixture on both sides of the steak.

Grill or broil steak for 5-6 minutes a side, turning once. Allow to sit for 10-15 minutes before carving into thin slices.

Fill romaine lettuce leaves with steak and garnish with toppings of choice.
