Green Tea & Avocado Smoothie

Did you know that January is National hot tea month? I suppose, however, since I chilled the green tea used in this smoothie that factoid is irrelevant…

I made this one up for my daughter. She was sick for a couple of days and not in the mood to eat. She loves both tea and smoothies, so I decided to put the two together. It was also a nice way to use up something left over from Christmas: Trader Joe's Candy Cane green tea.

The tea has 0 grams of sugar and I feel pretty clean, but if you don't have or want to use it, any green tea would work here. If you like the idea of the mint flavor, use a mint tea and/or incorporate some fresh mint leaves or extract into the mix.

If you prefer to avoid added sweetener, you could use 1/2 frozen banana for creaminess and natural sweetness.

Green Tea & Avocado Smoothie

8 oz. brewed green tea, chilled
1/2 cup coconut or unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1 tbs. raw almond butter
1 small ripe avocado (or 1/2 large one)
1 tbs. ground flax
pinch of salt
1 tbs. unsweetened cocoa powder (can omit if you don't want any chocolate flavor)
stevia, raw honey or maple syrup, to taste
sprinkle of raw cacao nibs, for crunch

Combine all ingredients in a blender and combine until smooth.
