Paleo Black Cherry Shake

I'm on day 5 of a detox/elimination diet I'm doing with my naturopath... hope you haven't noticed anything lacking in my recipes as a result!

I've been starting each morning with a shake, and I've had to get creative as bananas are currently off the menu. Just about every shake or smoothie I make has always contained a little frozen banana for sweetness and thickness, so I needed to come up with some new ones.

This black cherry shake came out really well, even passing my kids' taste test. You can make it without any protein powder, or if you have a chocolate variety you enjoy it would make it even richer. If you don't do nuts you could always use coconut milk and unsweetened shredded coconut as a replacement for the almond items.

Paleo Black Cherry Shake

1 cup almond milk
1-2 tbs. raw almonds or 1 tbs. raw almond butter
1 cup frozen dark sweet cherries
2 tbs. unsweetened raw cocoa powder
1 heaping scoop protein powder (if using)
large handful baby spinach
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tbs. ground flax
1 tbs. raw cacao nibs

Combine all ingredients in blender and process until smooth.
