Easy Homemade Paleo Taco Seasoning

I've shared many variations on taco dishes, as they're big favorites of my kids and easy to whip up. Even if you don't follow a paleo diet, I'd always recommend making your own taco seasoning over the stuff in packets. It's more economical, healthier and easier to customize to your taste buds.

This mixture is simple and not too spicy. I used onion powder because I was inexplicably short an onion to chop up, but you can certainly skip the powder and use 1/2 chopped onion. Don't mix it in with the spices, but rather cook in the skillet prior to browning your meat.

The unsweetened cocoa powder and cinnamon I include to add a little fun flavor. You can omit them and just use cumin, chili, oregano, salt and pepper... but I love throwing them in there!

This mixture makes enough for 1 lb. of meat, and works equally well with ground chicken, beef or turkey.
Easy Homemade Paleo Taco Seasoning

1 tbs. cumin
1 tbs. chili powder
1 tbs. onion powder
2 tsp. oregano
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cocoa powder
salt & pepper (I use a generous hand with the salt!)

Combine all ingredients with 1 cup of water in a medium bowl.

To prepare meat, first brown ground meat in a large skillet. Break up meat with a wooden spoon. Add spice and water mixture, stirring well. Taste for seasoning.
