Spice-Rubbed Strip Steak w Avocado-Lime Salsa

Someone put a fork in me. I am so thankful to be done with vacation eating! I stocked the fridge this morning at Whole Foods, and couldn't wait to grill up the strip steak I picked up. I adapted this recipe from Cooking Light, which gives the meat a flavorful spice rub balanced by the cool and creamy salsa.

This one is unbelievably quick and easy: the perfect simple summer meal.
Spice-Rubbed Strip Steak with Avocado-Lime Salsa

1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
2 tbs. chopped fresh cilantro
juice of 1/2 lime
1 tbs. extra-virgin olive oil
1/2 small jalapeno, seeded & diced
avocado, peeled and diced
1/2 tsp. salt, divided
1 tsp. ground cumin
1 tsp. paprika
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. chipotle chile powder
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
(8 oz.) strip steaks, trimmed

Preheat grill to high heat. Place first 6 ingredients in a bowl; gently stir in 1/4 teaspoon salt. Set aside.

Combine remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt, cumin, and next 4 ingredients (through cinnamon) in a bowl; rub spice mixture over both sides of steaks.

Place steaks on a greased grill; grill 3 minutes on each side or until desired degree of doneness. Let stand 5 minutes; cut across the grain into thin slices. Serve with salsa.
