Paleo Gingerbread Green Smoothie

This recipe is the result of me trying to be a cool and festive mom, givingg my poor recovering daughter a nice frosty treat. I can't say she was smitten, but both her brother and I liked this one!

I also just had a visit with my naturopath this week, and she was concerned as usual with my low iron levels. Blackstrap molasses is a great vegetarian source of iron, so it's great ingredient to pull out (which I tend to NEVER do, unless making something with "gingerbread" in the title!)

The hemp protein powder is completely optional, I just threw some in as I downed this after a run. The garnish is also just a little almond meal toasted with coconut oil and cinnamon. Again, not a necessary inclusion but it helped to dress up the smoothie a bit for the photos!
Gingerbread Green Smoothie

1 cup non-dairy milk
1/2 frozen banana
1/2 ripe avocado
large handful spinach
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 tbs. blackstrap molasses
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ginger
1 scoop vanilla hemp protein powder (optional)

Combine all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth.
