Cherry Almond Smoothies

When it comes to making smoothies, I don't usually follow recipes. I'm more of the mindset to dump a bunch of random stuff in and press the "on" switch. Perhaps that's why so many of my concoctions resemble sludge!
I was making this batch for the kids, though, so I thought I'd try out a recipe that caught my eye a while back on Whole Foods' website. I usually mix almond butter with banana, cocoa powder and the like... it's never seemed a natural match-up to berries.

My daughter doesn't like my son's "Elvis" smoothies, though, as she loathes bananas and is very picky about nut butter. She prefers fruity drinks, but I wanted to find a happy medium that would add a little more substance.

Both kids really liked this one, and I thought it was the perfect balance of sweet and tart. You couldn't really taste the almond butter in the end result, but it did help add body to the smoothie's texture.

Cherry Almond Smoothies
from Whole Foods Market

2 cups unsweetened almond milk
1 package (10 ounces) frozen cherries
1/4 cup creamy raw almond butter

Combine all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth.
