I think green smoothies can be a great inclusion in a paleo diet, as they help maintain a good alkaline balance in the bodies. I often make all sorts of crazy concoctions based on everything from avocado to spinach, but sometimes my kids in particular aren't in the mood for REALLY green smoothies.
Today's smoothie is very refreshing and cooling, which was perfect for a muggy day like today. I personally don't drink fruit juice, so this isn't one I'd have every day. I did add a little honey for my kids, but I thought it was plenty sweet on its own thanks to the fruit.
I juiced my celery and pineapple beforehand as they're both a bit fibrous and stringy. If you don't have one, a high-powered blender should still do the trick. I used Amazing Grass powder, but any greens powder would do (just read your labels and avoid added sweetener). You could always omit the powder too if it's not your thing ;)
Celery & Fruit Smoothie
4 stalks celery
1/2 cup fresh pineapple chunks
1/2 cup orange juice
1 tbs. greens powder
1/2 frozen banana, broken into chunks
handful of ice cubes
