The protein powder is optional. I use About Time, which contains only whey, xantham gum and stevia. I know that Paleo folk have mixed feelings about whey powder, and that including it the diet keeps one from being strictly Paleo. For me, though, it's something I can easily digest and and I don't eat it everyday. You can totally omit it from this recipe if you so choose!
My other piece of advice would be to use a really ripe avocado. Mine was a bit too firm, and I had to compensate with a little more almond milk than I generally use (about 2 tbs. more than in the recipe).
Paleo Chocolate Avocado Pudding
1 ripe avocado
2-3 tbs. unsweetened almond milk or coconut milk
1 tsp. vanilla
pinch of cinnamon and salt
4 tbs. cocoa powder
1 scoop chocolate whey protein (optional)
1 tbs. raw almond butter
