I have and really enjoy both of Mark Sisson's cookbooks. Everything I've made so far has been a solid hit. Tonight's recipe is from the lunch section of Quick and Easy Meals, but I "beefed" it up a bit to make it a very satisfying supper.
ZESTY STEAK SALAD
1 head romaine, broken into bite-size pieces
1 small red onion, thinly sliced
2 jalapeno peppers, seeded and thinly sliced
1/4 cup plus 1 tbs. extra virgin olive oil
2 tbs. dijon mustard
1 tbs balsamic vinegar (original recipe called for red wine vinegar)
1 lb. flank, skirt or top round sirloin steak
salt and pepper to taste
Combine lettuce, onion and peppers in a large bowl.
Whisk together 1/4 cup olive oil, 1 tbs. mustard and vinegar. Drizzle over bowl.
Smear 1 tbs. of mustard and 1 tbs. oil on both sides of steak. Salt lightly and sear in a pan over very high heat. Remove from heat and slice thinly. Combine with lettuce and season to taste.
**I also added some halved cherry tomatoes, pitted kalamata olives and 1/4 of a diced avocado. I think some sauteed mushrooms would have been delicious as well!
